HARRISBURG — Penn State researchers are near the head of the line to get funding from the state's $11.3 billion share of the national tobacco settlement. The university will soon begin receiving roughly $7.3 million a year to conduct biomedical research, according to the state's estimate for fiscal year 2001-02.

Transportation will be easier through campus and State College this summer, as the Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) has made changes in their routes and lines.

Health care and social service professionals from across the nation will converge tonight at the Nittany Lion Inn to attend a two-day intensive conference, HIV/AIDS in Rural Communities- Meeting the Challenge.

When Michelle Bahn returned to her apartment Sunday night, things were like they always were. She was laughing, giving advice and talking about songs to her roommate.

The American Red Cross is looking to increase inventories of blood before and after the Fourth of July holiday. Supplies of most blood types, which are required to be at a three-day supply, have been at less than a two-day supply.

Mary Jo Haverbeck, a retired Penn State sports information director, has been named the first recipient of the Trailblazer Award. The award will be presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) at the organization's annual convention next week in San Diego.

Joe Crispin and his family sat and watched the 2001 NBA Draft Wednesday night from their Pitman, N.J., home waiting for his name to be called on national television.
