HARRISBURG — With only a slight increase in state funding approved for fiscal year 2001-2002, Penn State students can expect a heftier tuition hike in the fall.

It took a village. For 10 days last spring semester, almost a hundred students protested the way Penn State handles racism by sleeping on the floor of the HUB-Robeson Center.

Brian Allen Johnson, a former maintenance worker for Penn State's parking facilities, was arraigned Friday before District Justice Carmine Prestia for allegedly striking a group of teenagers with his vehicle June 13 on campus.

National experts on children's fairy tales will hold a series of free public lectures today through Thursday at Foster Auditorium in Pattee Library.

Construction on the Curtin Road extension of the Penn State campus will close Curtin Road near Rec Hall today through Aug. 15.

Gov. Tom Ridge presented Penn State football coach Joe Paterno with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's 2001 Pennsylvania Founder's Award Thursday at the Governor's residence in Harrisburg. The award recognizes Paterno's lifelong contributions to the commonwealth and the nation through his teaching, coaching and philanthropy.

By Penn State guard Kelly Mazzante will serve as an alternate on the 2001 USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team. Rosters for the team were announced last Monday after four days of trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
