What a semester to be the opinion editor. Between the debate about whether Rep. John Lawless had a right to dictate what kinds of events students can hold to the current discussion about race relations, you have all kept me very busy and excited to go to work each day. There hasn't been a dull moment since I took this post back in January.
In light of the anticipated summer vacation many of us will have, my hope is that we will not forget how passionate we felt about some of these issues. Even if you never wrote a letter to the editor, I hope you at least glanced at something on our opinion pages once this semester that made you think. Even if that something made you so angry that you vowed never to read a column or editorial or letter again, I would say we did our job. As you read over today's editorial pages, it's more than likely that you will disagree with something that has been written. Please hold those thoughts. Keep them in the back of your mind and write them to the next opinion editor at the same letters@psu.edu address. Although you won't be published until June 23 at the earliest, you will be heard.
It's hard to leave the best position I've ever held at this newspaper, and for what it's worth, that's because of all you who felt strongly enough about something to write in (sometimes several times a week even).
Have a great summer and don't forget to write.
