NEWS

Sometimes it takes a village. As a few hundred students bedded down to spend the night in the HUB-Robeson Center late Tuesday, Black Caucus member Assata Richards (graduate-sociology) surveyed the scene and dubbed it "the village."

The body of an unidentified black man was discovered Tuesday night near the New York state border, but police said there is no indication that the body is connected to a claim made in a death threat sent to a Penn State student last week.

Yesterday, for the second night in a row, Penn State administrators left the HUB-Robeson Center after hours of negotiation with black student leaders. This time, the officials left students with a summary proposal detailing the demands the administration can and cannot accomplish.

The students gathering in the HUB-Robeson Cultural Center received more support yesterday as the Classroom Without Walls joined them in a show of solidarity.

The Student Film Organization (SFO) will present the 2001 CAN Film Festival at 8 p.m. today in Schwab Auditorium.

The Interfraternity Council is investigating allegations that several fraternity members harassed marchers at a "Take Back the Night" rally.

Students staying in State College this summer have many opportunities to make some extra cash. As the end of the semester approaches, many businesses are searching for new employees to fill vacant positions.

They're going the distance. One-hundred-ninety-five miles, to be exact.

While the problem of a shrinking national workforce of nurses is being compounded by a drop in enrollments at nursing schools across the country, enrollment and retention in Penn State's program has not dropped dramatically.

The bomb squad exploded a suspicious device left outside the Reed Union Building at Penn State Erie yesterday afternoon, but it turned out to be nothing more than a class project.

SPORTS

While watching a Penn State men's lacrosse game, it's easy to lose track of junior attacker Will Driscoll, but anyone who goes to a game would definitely know he was there.

The crowd at Nittany Lion field watched intently as a ball was hit foul into the home dugout and screamed directly toward outfielder Gina Bianchini.

The No. 12 Penn State men's volleyball team can take one more step towards what they have been reaching for all season.

The Penn State men's track and field team, along with 25,000 other athletes, head to the Penn Relays for three days of stiff competition.

Olympic athletes and Penn State — the idea isn't totally foreign. Former Penn State athletes have traveled to the Olympics, and now one will be attending Penn State for the next four years of her life to compete on the women's gymnastics team.

On Tuesday, for the second year in a row, junior setter Jose Quinones was named Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's Uvaldo Acosta Memorial Player of the Year.

The Penn State men's ultimate Frisbee team brought home the sectional title by defeating Pitt-Johnstown, Carnegie Melon and Bucknell in single-elimination play Sunday.

Pilar Montgomery and Rebecca Ho will lead the Penn State women's tennis team into the Big Ten Tournament, eager to overcome bubble status for the NCAA tournament.

For the student-athlete, juggling athletics and academics can be a challenge, no matter where you go to school. Excelling in both can be even harder.

At the end of the semester, many students kick back and relax to celebrate an end to the hard work and dedication they put in through the past several months.

Both floors of Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave. were comfortably packed with people eager to hear what guitarist Tim Reynolds had in store for them.

Radiohead is a musical anomaly. Although each of its three previous albums has taken an intentional step further away from the mainstream, each has done better in the charts than its predecessor.

The theater is dark and silent. Suddenly, an image blinks on the screen. A lone audience member breaks out into a chant of "I say Tom, You Say Green." No one responds, he shuts up and a title flashes onto the screen.
