As a member of the group that staged the protest during Saturday's Blue-White game, I would like to express my disgust at the reaction from the crowd of Alumni and students. The boos and heckles we experienced were a clear and ever present indication of the hostile environment here at Penn State. Since the demonstration, I have had to explain the protest to many students. Many of these students are either unaware or unwilling to truly make attempts to understand the issues that plague both Black students and the community at large.
The mere fact that "educated," fund-contributing alumni and students would act in such a "moronic" way toward agents of change is unacceptable. These actions speak to the clear and present danger we as students experience everyday. The "fun day" Joe Paterno spoke of could have remained if the alumni and students challenged their daily thoughts and attitudes concerning racism, hate, and discrimination.
