Letter to the Editor
Notion of 'white privilege' ridiculous and inaccurate

I am writing in response to all the letters trying to defend the students who ran onto the field before the Blue-White game Saturday. It seems that many of the racial issues that have been expressed on campus and by the Black Caucus have had little to no ground as "racial issues." Many of these things, all culminating in uniting in the center of a football field, are mere incidents that represent a few ignorant students who have somehow slipped through the admissions procedure at Penn State.

To say that I, or any other white person, does not understand the racism that blacks feel because of my "white privilege" is ridiculous. Today blacks, Asians, Hispanics and all other races have the ability to make the same advancements and receive the same benefits as the whites. The only reason that our student government has become the center of student racial complaints is because the black students have separated themselves into a separate group that attempts to function autonomously from the rest of the student government. To say that those students who charged the football field were right in their action is "moronic." All this represents is a group of students showing their desperation for attention during an eventful weekend that is meant to unite us as a Penn State family. If the students had chosen to stand outside the stadium and hold signs with their complaints their purpose could be justified. Sitting in the middle of a field justifies nothing. I do believe that racism exists. It is sad that a black student had to receive a letter threatening his life and I hope that the true ignorant person that sent it gets jailed for his action. However, I do not believe that running onto a football field or publishing 250 complaints in the Collegian is going to solve anything.
