At the conclusion of the most exciting season in Penn State basketball history, I was eager to see what success the squad might find in the future. Unfortunately, bad news struck last week as sophomore starter Jon Crispin announced his decision to leave the school to pursue his basketball career elsewhere. I was particularly disturbed by comments Jon's mother concerning the decision. Mrs. Crispin stated that Jon didn't play nearly the way he could have and he felt he needed a better place to showcase his skills. What makes college basketball so great is the spirit, heart and pure love of the game that the players exhibit on the court game in and game out. They don't play for millions, for records, or for personal glory. They play for their school and their teammates, and give every last piece of themselves to that hardwood court. Jon Crispin is no loss to this basketball program for he fails to exemplify the integrity and spirit of college basketball. Will he find his showcase where he can rack up points and personal glory, leaving any concept of team, school pride or love of the game behind? Who knows. All I know is there is no "I" in basketball, but there are two in Jon Crispin.
