NEWS

Black student leaders took control of a university-planned anti-hate rally yesterday at Old Main, where they gained the support of thousands.

The state House of Representatives voted yesterday to subtract a small amount of money from Penn State's appropriation, in a symbolic gesture against sexually explicit student events.

Penn State administrators asked the police and District Attorney Ray Gricar to consider dropping the trespassing charges and both areas of law enforcement agreed, the university said in a press release yesterday.

Students met with university administrators Monday night to discuss the implications of the possibility of having only one adviser for three combined programs — women's studies, labor and industrial relations and African and African-American studies.

Seven-year-old Jamie is stealing the show from the cows at the Penn State Dairy Barn. Jamie peeks into stall after stall, mooing at motionless Holsteins who blow puffs of frosty air from their gaping, dripping nostrils.

Penn State administrators' planned "No Hate at Penn State" march never left the steps of Old Main today, as Black Caucus members and other protesters started their own rally demanding a better response to diversity issues from the administration.

The annual Musica Nova concert will be tonight at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Music Building.

SPORTS

The Penn State women's gymnastics team has hit the Canadian jackpot.

When Pilar Montgomery takes court tomorrow at the Big Ten tournament, the senior could be taking her last swings at the tennis ball for in a Penn State uniform. That is, if the magical ride of the Nittany Lions ends before taking aim at the field in the NCAA championships starting May 12.

The Lady Ruggers played what Penn State women's rugby coach Pete Steinberg said was "the best game of rugby that a Penn State team has played since I've been their coach."

While Penn State students donned shorts and took to the quad for some warm weather activities this weekend, the Penn State men's rugby team was in Wyoming battling six inches of snow.
