Letter to the Editor
Reforming UPAC next year should be a USG priority

After reading the Collegian editorial about USG Senate President Sean Clark's plans for next year, I was extremely disheartened. While running for USG president, I spoke to hundreds of students who are absolutely disgusted with UPAC and its policies. Now that we actually have someone in a position of authority who plans to do something about it, the Collegian speaks out against him and says his plans are unrealistic. I applaud Mr. Clark and all of the senators who are making UPAC a priority for next year.

This body has misappropriated thousands of dollars of student money and its time for it to stop. The Collegian Board of Opinion also stated that if not enough students applied for the few elected positions that currently exist it is unrealistic to think we could fill more. Has it ever occurred to anyone that the system discourages people from running because they know if they get elected, they will be heavily outnumbered by administration appointees? I also question the timing of the Collegian's criticisms of Clark. Don't you think we should give him a chance to get something done before we start to criticize him? Or are some people feeling threatened by having a leader who cares more about the students than he does about his resume? It's time for change, and its time for the Penn State community to get behind Sean Clark and the USG Senate so we can fix the problems that plague this university.
