Today's University Park forecast
Cloudy

A milder and sunny day is in store for Happy Valley today as a high pressure drifts eastward, settling off the coast of the Carolinas. The sunshine will be short lived however, as a low pressure system approaches from the Midwest, providing plenty of clouds and scattered showers for beginning of the Blue-White weekend. Warmer temperatures will dominate the rest of the weekend.

Weather Highlight

Residents of the Upper Midwest continue to use thousands of sandbags to keep the Missippi River from flooding even more, with water pumps being used to remove any water that has risen into their homes. While the river is slowly receding, it can take as much as two weeks for a river to drop below flood stage, and more rain showers are predicted for the already-saturated region in the coming days. More than 200 homes have already been damaged from the flooding..

Weather Fact

Floods and flash floods have caused billions of dollars of damage each year and kill more people than any other weather-related event. A flood is an overflow of water from a river or similar body of water that occurs for a long period of time. A flash flood occurs when water quickly rises as a result of heavy rain in a short period of time.
