This week on NBC the newest of million dollar shows straight from the United Kingdom, Weakest Link, made its debut and has taken America by storm.
Anne Robinson is the quick-witted host who can sling insults at the contestants faster than a speeding bullet. Those who are brave enough to go on this show have to be ready to absorb her quips and some have even dared to fire back.
The show begins with eight contestants who have to fight each other, the clock and the host. For seven rounds the contestants play together as a team and attempt to answer questions as fast as possible.
When the players get an answer right then more money is added to their pot. If they get it wrong then they lose their money and return to zero. If a player says "bank" before they answer a question, then all of the previously earned money will be saved and that is how they accumulate winnings. At the end of each round the time on the clock is decreased and one of the members of the team is voted off as ... the weakest link. When a player is voted off, they leave with nothing.
By the final round, two players remain and they go head-to-head in a five-question shoot out. Theoretically the winner could walk away with $1 million, however it seems quite impossible to achieve. The other contestant who remained in the shoot-out gets nothing.
This show combines humiliation, a tyrant and lots of money a perfect trio for fun and ratings. Will it last? Who knows, but it is quite amusing and many will get a kick out of it, at least the first time they see it.
