Once again, No Refund Theater is setting up shop for its newest free production at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow in 111 Forum. The Last Supper, a very inhospitable dark comedy directed by Jeff Wu (senior-accounting), is about five people determined to do their part to make the world a better place by killing their dinner guests.
The play revolves around five graduate students who ask the question, "If you could go back in time and kill Adolf Hitler, would you?"
They would. But that option not being available, they choose the next best thing killing the radical conservatives whom they invite to their Sunday night dinners.
"The story is really that they have a bad experience and they start to think about what they can do to change the world for a better place," Wu said.
It all starts rather innocently with these five liberal-minded people who gather to discuss the world and political views over dinner.
Then one night they happen to have a racist guest join these happy, politically inclined activists. When things turn nasty and he is killed, they start to embark on a crusade. Each Sunday they invite a new evil conservative guest, and if they can't change the guests' views, they are executed for the good of society.
"Regardless of your views," said assistant director Jeremy Owens (sophomore-physics), "It will disagree with some belief. It hits below the belt, but manages to be funny."
Wu also promises amusement as we meet the eclectic array of doomed dinner guests: a reverend who sees AIDS as the cure for homosexuality, a schoolgirl who sues her school board for teaching sex education, an anti-abortion activist, and a homeless basher. According to Owens, we won't hate the other guests as vehemently as the first one, but we will certainly enjoy watching their demise.
