These riots or disturbances of the peace are the faults of those who participate. Whether we win or lose does not give anyone the right to destroy someone else's property. I know this concept may be hard for some of you to understand, but you should have respect for the things of others.
This applies in and out of college. You may not realize it now, but the negative publicity will affect you. Your degree at Penn State will be tarnished whether you participated or not. Graham Spanier said it best when he said that we are not living up to our alma mater, which states, "May no act of ours bring shame." Perhaps that is because we don't know the words; sadly we don't sing them at the football games.
There is talk of bringing a real mountain lion to Penn State to boost our team spirit. Maybe just a campaign on unity, peaceful celebration, and learning the alma mater and what it stands for would be a better use of our resources. We should strive to prove that we are not poor sports when we lose, unlike now where we throw a tantrum like a 2 year old. This is our university and we should show the world (in an appropriate manner) that we are proud to be Penn Staters.
