Local gyms get business; they should not sue PSU
I think it is ridiculous for local gyms to consider a lawsuit against Penn State for expanding on-campus workout facilities. Most large state schools offer their students state-of-the-art exercise facilities free of cost or for a small fee. Penn State has recognized the need for students to be active physically and mentally during their college years. I admit I have belonged to a private gym in State College for the past couple years. Even though Penn State revamped the White Building, I decided to hold onto my membership at an off-campus gym for my last semester at school. However, I do believe that Penn State students are entitled to the best exercise equipment after paying thousands of dollars in tuition. Students like me have spent from $100 to 150 per semester to join off-campus gyms because of the long lines and inadequate equipment at Penn State in past years. As I can tell from waiting in line for a treadmill at my local off-campus gym, these businesses are not hurting financially and should cease considering to sue the university. It is Penn State's duty as a university to fulfill the needs of students and the university is doing so by expanding its exercise facilities.
