Letter to the Editor
Photo of USG candidate inappropriate, unflattering

I am writing this in response to the humiliating picture of Terry Burke that appeared in The Daily Collegian on Thursday. This was a completely inappropriate picture to publish, as there must have been other photos of Terry to choose from.

I was there when several other photos were taken by Collegian photographers that would have been much more flattering, to say the least. For instance, one was taken of Justin Zartman hugging Terry after his victory. It was a much more touching, encouraging and newsworthy photo that showed the agony of defeat (as the printed photo only showed) as well as class and compassion by both candidates.

It is irresponsible of The Daily Collegian to allow a photo that caused humiliation to a student to be printed when it could have been avoided simply by choosing a different photo. Terry Burke and Ben Gerald came in second by a mere 90 votes out of thousands; Terry should have received more respect than that photo gave him.
