In honor of the 30-year anniversary of the American Indian Leadership Program, a traditional powwow was held at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel Saturday night.
Powwows are both celebrations of community and important symbols of identity for American Indians. When reservations were created, the government limited dancing, making powwow gatherings even more culturally significant.
Participants wore decorated regalia and danced to the beat of a traditional drum. During intertribal dances, all the people present were invited to enter the arena and join the dance.
