At least two downtown gyms are considering initiating litigation against Penn State because of university plans to use more space than originally planned for exercise equipment in the White Building.

Sobriety checkpoints throughout the commonwealth were ruled constitutional this week by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in a 4-3 vote.

Penn State students who are having trouble filling their fitness requirements before graduating could have more opportunities to do so, though not through the proposals of the newly elected Undergraduate Student Government leaders.

Penn State students voting in Wednesday's Undergraduate Student Government election chose more than just a new set of student leaders — they determined which issues students thought were most important at Penn State.

Derrick Salvato was ready to take on new challenges after his graduation in May. After he completed his degree in actuarial science, he planned to work in the business field and eventually obtain a master's degree. He had already met with several recruiters, several of whom called for follow-up interviews.

Another weekend, another top ranked opponent for the Penn State men's lacrosse team.

Playing for the World Cup in rugby is an incredible honor, and just to be selected for the team is a feat in itself. Penn State can now boast, as they have three players from the Penn State men's rugby team getting a chance to make that dream come true.

The Penn State baseball team was sick of the road, sick of the cold and sick of losing.

The women's lacrosse team was hoping to gain a little confidence against Princeton last weekend.

The Penn State softball team will open its 2001 Big Ten season this weekend when it plays three games at home. The Lions will open up conference play against Northwestern tomorrow at 2 p.m.

The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union Championships will begin tomorrow, as the Penn State men's rugby team will head to Virginia to test its luck.

The Lady Ruggers will find themselves in Roanoke, Virginia this weekend to take part in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union tournament.

The No. 10 Penn State men's volleyball team has played 23 matches this year and is not about to overlook its 24th.

The Penn State women's tennis team welcomes interstate rival Ohio State to Happy Valley at 11 a.m. Sunday.

To the members of Candiflyp, it's just another Thursday night. There are teenagers screaming from all corners of the room, girls fighting to get to the front of the stage, rowdy dancers knocking each other to the ground, even crowd surfers tumbling from hand to outstretched hand.

Now that the Oscars are over, it's time for PSU's annual Film Follies. Everyone is invited and admission is free.

Tonya Browne was greatly loved on and off the stage. The lead vocalist of the former Queen Bee and the Blue Hornet Band, who passed away on March 9, will be greatly missed by many.

Georgia Madison sits perched in the back of the store partly hidden by her sewing machine, which seems to wait patiently, with a spool of white thread in its grip, eager for her cue.

Godsmack, the world-renowned alternative-metal band, is headlining the "Wake The F*** Up Tour," which will arrive April 14 at The Bryce Jordan Center.

James D. Burns (freshman-East-Asian studies) could probably recite the beginning of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit by rote.

The exhibit Power in my Hand: Works on Paper by Women Artists from the Permanent Collection showcases the works of 21 bold female artists of the late 20th century.


Asher Kahn is bringing his traveling band back to State College for the first time under their new alias with the intentions of rocking The Saloon, 101 Hiester St., and winning over some new fans.

If you begin a night out this weekend with laughter, chances are your good mood will carry through the evening.

Learning to truly appreciate one's culture is a feat in itself. However, learning to appreciate another culture is a different story.

This weekend, No Refund Theatre will showcase Jesus, The Missing Years, a comedy about what might have happened between the years when Jesus was 12 and 30.

The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra will be performing at Penn State at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Eisenhower Auditorium.


The John Pizzarelli Trio, The Big Band Swing Orchestra and The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra will all be serenading Penn State this month.
