RAs not treated the same; punishments inconsistent
Residence Life asserts that it is a consistent and fair organization, which upholds its staff to equal standards. For this reason, Residence Life states that Ms. Perez was dismissed from her position of resident assistant. Consistent and fair? I am assuming this does not apply to the resident assistants who never hold socials, are hardly ever available to their residents, skip duty rounds, change their bulletin boards once a semester, hold power trips over their residents and drink alcohol while on duty. Residence Life also states that they are interested in promoting a healthy environment for students living in the Residence Halls. Again, I suppose this does not apply to dismissing an RA, deemed as a facilitator of a healthy environment by her residents, and taking away from these residents a mentor, leader and role model. Residence Life denies that any of this occurs and that if it does, the resident assistants who are negligent, uncaring and lazy are reprimanded. In many cases, they are reprimanded, but unfortunately, in many cases, this does not hold true. This is not exactly a demonstration of consistency and fairness. For these reasons, I can understand why there is some speculation surrounding Ms. Perez's firing. When inconsistency and unfairness seep into a bureaucratic process one can not help but wonder as to the motivation for this. After taking this into account one can understand that racism, among other possible reasons, is a valid one.
