Hooters degrades women; Pride Week celebrates life
I was appalled and infuriated upon reading the letter sent in by Greg West. To put Pride Week and Sex Faire in the same category as Hooters is down right ridiculous. These are two completely different issues and address completely different concerns. Pride Week, Sex Faire and the Drag Ball are about being proud of who you are and learning about diversity. These events promote individuality and acceptance in our world. Hooters is not about any of these things. Hooters is about "hungry, heterosexual males" ogling girls dressed up in tiny tops and skirts. Hooters is about making women into sex objects and no longer human beings. Hooters represents male chauvinism and sexism at its peek. It doesn't promote anything positive, but merely the idea that women can be treated as pieces of meat. So tell me again how events like Pride Week, which promote individuality, diversity, pride and acceptance, can be placed in the same class with a place like Hooters, which reinforces the idea that women are pretty toys for men to have, hold and play with. That's right you can't.
