Godsmack, the world-renowned alternative-metal band, is headlining the "Wake The F*** Up Tour," which will arrive April 14 at The Bryce Jordan Center.
Another popular alternative-metal band, Staind, will be accompanying Godsmack on the tour along with Cold and Systematic.
For Godsmack, this large venue tour is its first as the headlining act. Last year the band performed as the second in command at Ozzfest and in the fall they opened for Stone Temple Pilots.
Awake, Godsmack's second album released last year is louder and angrier than their first self-titled release that went triple platinum and spawned four smash-hit singles "Whatever," "Keep Away," "Voodoo" and "Bad Religion." The title track from Awake is presently No. 14 on the Billboard's Modern Rock charts.
The band is comprised of front man and self-proclaimed witch Sully Erna (vocals), Tony Rombola (guitarist), Robbie Merrill (bassist) and Tommy Stewart (drummer). Erna formed the band in 1995 and named them after a song by Alice in Chains.
In February, Godsmack received seven Boston Music Award nominations including "Act of the Year," "Best Rock Band" and "Male Vocalist of the Year." Staind, the other Boston-based band on the bill, received six nominations as well.
Staind is set to release its second album in late April. The band, which originally received its big break from Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, ironically enough, almost lost their chance at the hands of Durst.
After winning over Limp Bizkit's lead vocalist with a demo tape, he lined them up as an opening act for a 1997 concert in Connecticut.
Just a few minutes before the band took the stage, Durst tried to have them thrown off the tour for being devil worshippers due to the nature of their cover art.
His efforts were denied, and after Staind's set, Durst recanted his statements and said they were one of the best live acts he's ever seen. The rest is history.
The show begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are priced at $27.50 for general admission floor and reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased at the Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, selected Uni-Mart outlets, and Commonwealth Campus ticket outlets or can be charged by phone at (800) 863-3336, (814) 865-5555 or online at www.bjc.psu.edu.
