Asher Kahn is bringing his traveling band back to State College for the first time under their new alias with the intentions of rocking The Saloon, 101 Hiester St., and winning over some new fans.
The Asher Kahn Band will be opening for Bluesuedegroove, veterans of the State College bar circuit, at 10 p.m. tomorrow night. The cover charge will be $3.
Made up of former Penn State students, the band is on its second stint together. When they were known as Catfish Soup, the group broke up for awhile.
After the members jumped around from band to band, Kahn (vocals, guitar) decided he wanted to get back to playing simply for fun. So he called up his old friends, Mike Smith (bass, vocals) and Aaron Bozcowski (drums, vocals), to reunite under the new title of the Asher Kahn Band.
"It's been one hell of a ride, but we're still just a couple of guys who love to play," Kahn said.
The band is currently testing the waters in various venues throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York. Although the band hasn't landed any major gigs, Kahn seems content. "I try not to think or worry about the future, we just do our thing and have a good time," he said.
"We always want more, but honestly I couldn't be happier"
As for the band's sound, Kahn had trouble putting a finger on their particular style other than saying, "we're a rock-n-roll band." He later added, "We're not out for shock value. I like to think of us as having a greater purpose than just being a party band, but I think that's just my cheesy artistic side talking."
Kahn anticipates the band playing primarily original songs, but he kept the door open for splicing in a few covers.
"We like to showcase our originals, but depending on how long we play and how drunk we get, we might do a cover or two."
