Do not trivialize racist acts in unparallel comparisons

I think we should all listen to each other's opinions and try to understand, without condemnation, how others feel and are affected by racism. I think it is over simplifying the issue to do anything less than this. Racism and minorities in America are not to be compared with other groups with a minority opinion, as one reader suggests. No one decides on his or her race, sex or arguably sexual preference. These things are chosen by God and nature. One decides to be conservative or pro-life or a smoker, etc. Sex and race are not decided by us, and before we can try to compare treatment of minorities in American to the treatment of someone in America because of their minority opinion, I think we should be careful because we may not be comparing apples to apples and may end up unintentionally trivializing the issue.
