When looking toward the acts of racism at Penn State, it has given me the impression many people believe only certain races can be the receivers of discriminatory or racist measures. The fact remains that any person of a certain race can be (and probably is) racist or prejudiced toward any given ethnic group.

The Collegian continuously prints "racism at Penn State," featuring an isolated incident involving prejudice acts at our university, yet they mainly deal with African Americans. Is this to say that whites, Hispanics, Arabs and Asians aren't receiving any deserving attention of discrimination toward them here at school? Tuesday's edition mentioned that while traveling on a bus, an African American woman said she would rather sit with one of her own, when looking for a seat on the bus. We have all these incidents of whites and others discriminating and harassing African Americans on a consistent basis, yet have we seen this — a perfect example of someone other than a white person being a racist.

If an African American or another minority insults a white person, it seems to gain no attention.

If a white man says he would "rather be with one of his own," it's seen as racist, but if someone of a minority does so, it could be seen as acceptable. Why? There seems to be a need to cover incidents that are hurting minorities, which almost says that whites on the receiving end of discrimination is supposedly rare.

Any person can be prejudiced against any other race, as blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities should not be seen as the only ones who could receive an act of discrimination.
