National attention of riot robs team of glory, pride
I am angry that some of the student body rioted Friday night in what seemed to be a predetermined act regardless of whether we won or lost. Well, we lost, we rioted, and we should be ashamed that we marred our basketball team's dance to the Sweet 16 with our version of being sore losers. In fact, I was thoroughly embarrassed to see an article of the riots on ESPN.com, gaining national attention, while the review of the game lay down below, out of sight. A few acts by some ignorant drunks have disgraced our university on a national level yet again. To make sure this recent trend doesn't continue maybe, we could all do a few simple things: Stay away from the riot, period. It's human nature to be curious, but without an audience, drunken rioters have no motivation to act the way they did. Let's make this a university issue in a public forum with President Spanier and USG President Matt Roan in which students, faculty, and local residents alike could share opinions and options for solving this problem. Let's also make this an individual issue. The people who participated in the rioting should think about the implications of their actions, not only to themselves, but to the entire student body and the thousands of alumni across the country. I hope from now on, that the only news making national headlines will be our precious lions and their continuing basketball prowess instead of the disgraceful acts of a select few sore losers.
