Letter to the Editor
Drag Ball a celebration of Pride Week; do not compare to Hooters

This is in response to the letter written by Brendan Holloway in yesterday's Collegian. I strongly disagree with the idea that everyone at Penn State knows racism exists.

There are many who live in a bubble and they think that the world is perfect. And of those who do know that it exists, how many of them know the extent to which it still exists?

No, it's not as overt as it was before, but believe me it has not changed that much. Obviously you have never been a victim of racism and you must not know very many people who have been either. If you were, then you would know that racism is not something you just "get around," just because you've accepted the fact that it exists. Maybe for you it is so easy because you have never experienced it. But I have as well as many of my friends. With many incidents occurring right here in State College. If we lived in a "perfect" world then maybe we could all "get along regardless of race." But we do not. And until we do, racism will not be tolerated on any level. Not racist remarks, racist jokes, or racist acts of violence. Sorry to disappoint you but as long as racism exists, I, along with all of the advocates and supporters of anti-racism, will continue to be vocal and intolerant about it.
