One of two high school girls' basketball coaches charged with furnishing alcohol to their team during a visit to State College in January was bound over for trial during the men's preliminary hearings yesterday.
Jon Flahart, 31, of Delta, Pa., was bound over on one count of endangering the welfare of children, four counts of corruption of minors and four counts of selling or furnishing alcohol to minors. Two counts of corruption of minors and five counts of selling or furnishing alcohol to minors were dropped.
All charges against Daniel Hartman, 20, were dropped. Hartman, of Hanover, Pa., faced six counts of corruption of minors, eight counts of selling or furnishing alcohol to minors and one count of purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of alcohol.
However, according to testimony, Flahart handed beer to Hartman who opened it and handed it back to Flahart, who then handed it to the girls. Because the testimony showed that Hartman did not hand the alcohol to the girls directly, the charges were dropped.
Flahart and Hartman are the former coaches of the Donegal High School girls' basketball team.
The team visited State College Jan. 27 to watch a Penn State women's basketball game.
The group stayed overnight at the Hampton Inn, 1101 E. College Ave., where the alleged underage drinking occurred.
Donegal High School is located in Mount Joy, Pa.
