The Penn State softball home opener that was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. last night was postponed because of cold weather. The doubleheader will be made up today at 4 p.m. on Nittany Lion Field.
The Red Flash will be the first of three teams the Lions will play at home this week. They will also be the last non-conference team Penn State will play before Big Ten play begins.
The Lions will play Northwestern Friday at 2 p.m. to open up their conference play. They will then play two games against Iowa, the defending Big Ten champions. Those games will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lions will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak when they play St. Francis. The Red Flash are 7-8 overall and 5-2 in their last seven games. The will bring two quality pitchers to Happy Valley in Stacy Scofield and Cindi Ciotti. The Lions will most likely counter with their own duo of Kelly McCann and Marisa Hanson.
