Innocent people sprayed during riot last weekend

While walking from the house where I watched the basketball game, I walked into the group of people standing on Beaver Avenue who were cheering, "We are. . .Penn State." No one was being violent and the road was clear at the time.

I was sprayed point blank in the eyes with absolutely no warning. If we had been warned, I would have left, especially if I had known that police would actually hurt innocent girls.

From what I saw, it was only after the police were hurting people that the crowd turned violent. I think it is outrageous how this incident has been reported. Just because we're students doesn't mean that we are drunken rioters who deserve to be beaten to the ground. My roommate and I were neither drunk nor rioting at the time we were hurt.

While I understand that the police were there to prevent any property damage, I cannot understand why they felt it necessary to injure hundreds of innocent people to save a couple street signs. I, along with many others, am disgusted with the way this incident was handled, and I hope that people will realize that without the police adding to the violence, these "riots" would not have been as out of control.
