The Penn State baseball club swept the Mustangs of Montgomery County Community College on Sunday in a doubleheader by winning 6-0 and 18-7, respectively.
The Lions (8-6) were led by the pitching of Mike Ridge (3-1, 2.85 ERA) in the first game, as he struck out eight batters and gave up just four hits in posting the shutout victory.
Freshman third baseman Nick Baldasari and outfielder Jason Bunda led the offensive attack for the Lions by combining to bat in four runs on four hits.
Tom Case (3-0, 3.97 ERA) notched the win for Penn State in the second game by striking out two and giving up just two earned runs through five innings on the mound.
Senior shortstop Ryan Hostetter had a solid game at the plate as he reached base all six times he was up. He had three hits, three walks, four runs batted in, and four stolen bases.
Junior outfielder Josh Winfrey smashed a three-run home run for the Lions to add to the onslaught.
"To go in there and beat our rivals twice was a big boost for our confidence," Penn State baseball club head coach Jason O'Neill said. "It was exciting to see our defense start to gel."
The Lions will face the University of Virginia club team this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at noon on Beaver Field.
