Students are not to blame for riot after NCAA game
I was no where near the so-called riots this past weekend, but from students I have talked to and articles in the newspaper, I feel that students are not to blame. Sure, alcohol was involved, but why, then, is there not a "riot" every weekend? Police are not very popular in this area and any sight of force by the police could cause trouble. It is my belief that these "riots" in the past, here at PSU, are mainly caused by the police themselves. If the police would have just left the students alone, been there just to protect against property damage, then the crowd would not have been unruly. When the police come in using force, they are just looking for trouble. If there was no force from the police, the crowd would eventually have died down, but when the police use force, they are causing students to stay there to fight for themselves. Just like everything at this school, this "riot" was exaggerated. What would happen if the police did not use force? Would things have gone the way they did? We will never know because each time the police get involved. Up to the point where the police got involved, could it have been called a riot? How are we going to associate between riots and a gathering of students?
