Letter to the Editor
Alumni, residents embarrassed by students in riot: Letter 5
I think your editorial was right on. We alums and students do care deeply about honor and integrity. It is unfair that the 99.9 percent of students and alums get painted with this brush of lunacy. One point, however: If someone was hanging around in the crowd witnessing this mess, they cannot be called an innocent bystander. They should have realized that they needed to disperse and not provide an audience for the more active participants. I wonder if those arrested for crimes will be incarcerated and the students dismissed, if convicted. Probably not and there lies the answer. Without consequences, some people will never respect authority. Throwing bottles from ten stories may be attempted assault with a deadly weapon and if convicted, must result in incarceration. A far as the city curtailing the rights of all, this would just compound the injustice to all true Penn Staters. Please keep us posted on prosecutions and convictions resulting from this lunacy.
