Alumni, residents embarrassed by students in riot: Letter 6

I have always had a lot of pride in my alma mater. I have more T-shirts and coats and hats than I care to admit. I have stickers in my car and a flag that I hang on my front porch. Then this Saturday, as I went to pull my Penn State coat out of the closet, I paused and wondered if there was any dignity left in wearing my school's colors.

Thank you so much to you students who participated Friday night in making a mockery of my alma mater. Do you have any idea the kind of pride that thousands and thousands of people share in that campus and the pride that has become associated with The Pennsylvania State University?

Obviously you have no idea about that or anything else of any meaning or value. I'd like to congratulate your parents on perpetuating a society where there are no longer any consequences, only excuses.

To the administration of my alma mater that has been more than willing to take my money and that of my three siblings, who are also alumni, I beg of you to act swiftly. Let's start nabbing these trouble makers and get them out of our school.

I am begging you to please restore some pride and dignity to my degrees and those of every other alumni who are now forced to endure mockery throughout the state of Pennsylvania and the entire country. And if, in fact, it has come to a point where these spoiled youngsters cannont handle alcohol, then I guess a dry campus is in order. A pity isn't it? We had access to alcohol and many other things and in the seven total years that I spent there, never once was there even a hint of a riot. Nonetheless, consequences are what is missing here.

The news says that Penn Staters have proven to be "sore losers." Again, congratulations, kids, and of course to your parents. Aren't you proud?
