Letter to the Editor
Sex program educational; PSU should give it space
So you're in college now. Time to find yourselves, get and education, and begin forming your own thoughts and ideas about life just as long as you don't talk about it. The administration this week told organizers of the Safer Sex Cabaret, an educational program promoting abstinence, that the event might not be allowed to happen on campus because it's "lewd." How did it come to this? How could we have let our freedom of speech be taken away? Now, it is my understanding that the university administration supports us, the student body, and our freedom of speech. I mean, I couldn't be prouder of Graham Spanier for supporting us in Harrisburg a few weeks ago. And I thank Dr. Spanier for that. Unfortunately, this is a state institution, and Harrisburg isn't sharing our point of view. Where do you draw the line? How long is it going to be before they start robbing us of other Constitutional rights? Now, I'm not going to sit here and say I know all the answers and I know what should be done, because I don't. What I do know is that there are a lot of students on this campus who feel the same way I do. To those students: write letters, make phone calls. However, another point to bear in mind: Insulting letters and phone calls won't get us anywhere, but if enough of us speak up and stand up for our rights, I'd like to think something could change. We must stand together and do something before this gets out of hand.
