Article about Latina RA unsupported by the facts
To put it simply, the accusations made in Wednesday's edition of the Collegian that Ms. Perez's firing was racially motivated, made me sick. What exactly was the racist factor in this firing? The fact that she is Latina does not cut it for me, as I am sure it doesn't for many of you. The way I see it is that she broke a rule and was dealt with just like any other resident would have been. This article belonged in a copy of The National Enquirer and not in a publication devoted to reporting the facts. If it is true that Ms. Perez was fired because of her ethnicity, I am deeply worried. However, the facts just do not add up; making accusations of racism where there is none is just as despicable as being racist. Not only do those comments hurt the accused, but also the real victims of racism on our campus. Let's stop this sensational reporting and baseless accusations and report the news.
