Letter to the Editor
Some published incidents not examples of racism
In a letter written by Sam Spadafora, he discourages you, The Daily Collegian, from publishing accounts of racism. In a legitimate argument to prevent controversy, Sam expresses distaste for publishing the accounts. Having lived all over the world, I have experienced racism in many forms. The incidents published by The Daily Collegian, though sometimes significant, are often inadequate examples of racism. Minorities interpreting an unjust act by a member of the majority often claim racism as the culprit. A racist assumption in itself, it gains additional martyrdom for the wronged. Using the same judgment they resent, the minority passes judgment upon the majority. Publishing such misconceptions can only influence more of such acts, arousing resentment in among minorities and defiance in the majority.
