Letter to the Editor
Do not speak for campus; some care about racism

I am writing this letter in response to the senior business logistics major who decided he wanted to speak upon my behalf in the yesterday's edition of the Collegian.

"I think this campus is sick and tired of hearing about the problems we have with racism," he stated. Being a part of this campus, I would like to say what I'm sick of and that is opening up the paper and reading letters whose deep roots are firmly planted in the in-bred, washboard-playing, idiot garden.

You can't play the "If I close my eyes, no one can see me" game with racism. Articles that document hate crimes perpetuate action. It inspires people to do something about it.

Sure, racism may never go away, but you can make people aware of what's going on. Even changing one person's narrow perspective into a more tolerant one accomplishes something.

What I also found interesting was how this business logistics major basically admitted to the masses that he was not part of a minority. I really enjoy how people who most likely own lawn jockeys and make racist jokes around the keg think that they can make comparisons with racism and delude themselves into thinking they are victims themselves when, in fact, if this person were a victim of racism, or knew anybody who was, than he would understand how important it is to publish stories on it.

If stupidity is allowed to be in the paper, then so should racism, because stupidity is founded by ignorance, which essentially has to do with racism anyway.
