Letter to the Editor
Students should consider thoughts before writing
In reference to all the rude letters lately, I can only say that this campus seems fraught with closed-mindedness. I find it hard to believe that an alumni's opinion on a current PSU issue is so overwhelmingly offensive that it would prompt someone to write a letter saying alumni's opinions should be barred from the Collegian. More recently, Adam Dean, in getting to his ultimate message that Police Services are too lax, makes it a point to undermine the importance of Matthew Seton's letter. I feel that it was extraneous to the point and almost childish for Mr. Dean to do this. It is obvious that a CD player is more valuable than a sleeping bag, I mean, we all made it here to PSU, so we're obviously not idiots. However, is there a need to bash another person to make the same point? I feel that this entire campus could benefit from a lesson in good old tolerance of others' opinions. I am a freshman and ever since I have been at Penn State, there have been issues of intolerance. I would just like to say that if we want to achieve anything, we have to listen to what people say and take it into consideration as their opinion rather than dismissing it as stupid or wrong. Once again, I do not want to come off as idealistic or dramatic, but some things do not have a right and wrong, opinions are opinions and nothing more. We all should be able to express them without fear of a backlash of a thousand letters saying we are wrong. Let's all try and exert some control over our instincts. Consider first, then write.
