Students with complaints must vote in USG election

I'm writing this letter in response to just reading that only 12 percent of the undergraduate student population voted in last year's Undergraduate Student Government elections. Every day that I read the Collegian, I see students complaining constantly about everything ranging from the Loop being too crowded to the whole Sex Faire debacle. Now I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and views; that's what America is all about. What I don't believe is that with the thousands of letters that the Collegian receives from students concerning university issues, and the thousands of students you can hear on campus discussing their opinions with each other, that only 3,905 actually bothered to exercise their freedom to support their beliefs.

Have we as a student body become so apathetic that we can complain all day about our gripes about the campus, but when the opportunity arises to vote and change policy, we don't take advantage of it? I think this letters section of the paper is an excellent way to make your voice heard in the university and the community. Let's pick up the voter turnout and give that voice some weight. Find out more information about the elections, and remember that your opinions don't count until you vote!
