Irish folk band to groove at State College High

The Acoustic Brew Coffeehouse Concert Series will bring fun, traditional Irish music to State College at 7:30 tonight.

Craobh Rua, a traditional Irish band from Belfast, will be performing at State College High School South Auditorium along with Beth Amsel.

The band recently released an album titled If Ida Been Here, Ida Been There (2000), which mixes traditional reels, jigs, and songs from Ireland and Scotland. Craobh Rua has experienced most of their success in Scotland, where their live performances were warmly welcomed.

Craobh Rua is made up of Michael Cassidy (fiddle), Brian Connolly (banjo and mandolin), Patrick Davey (uilleann pipes, flutes and whistles) and Aaron Jones (cittern, guitar and vocals.)

Amsel is a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist whose first full-length album, A Thousand Years, was nominated last year for a Boston Music Award for Best Debut Folk/Acoustic Album.

Begun in 1992, the Acoustic Brew Coffeehouse is a non-profit concert series run by volunteers. Tickets are priced as inexpensively as possible.

Tickets to see Craobh Rua are $10 and can be purchased at Webster's Bookstore Café, 128 S. Allen St., or the University Book Centre, 206 E. College Ave.
