Letter to the Editor
Coverage of racism at PSU perpetuates the problems

I am writing this letter in complete embarrassment of being a Penn State student. In reference to the article printed in yesterday's Collegian, "Candle costs RA job, dorm room," I am completely disgusted with the thoughts presented at the end of the article, and I think it is time to end this ridiculousness. I am not referring to the general ideas of the article and my sympathy does go out to Ingrid; however, she was an RA and was there to set the example and follow the rules. The part of the article and the general theme of the Collegian that has me so upset is the thought that this issue is related to racism here on campus. That is absurd.

I think this campus is sick and tired of hearing about the problems we have with racism, but the fact of the matter is, it will not go away if you keep printing it. The other problem with the Collegian as of late is this new idea to print racist incidents at Penn State. Again, this issue will not go away as long you continue to print these ridiculous articles.

Me and my friends could not help but laugh out loud when we read the articles from the last few days. Is that really what the Collegian and Penn State want, another reason for students to laugh? What is the relevance of them? Who is to say that the incidents were not simply made up from someone's imagination just to get attention? I am still waiting to see an article printed by somebody who is white, probably because most people here think you have to be part of a minority to be a victim of racism. This whole issue has gotten out of hand lately, and I think something needs to be done.
