First of all, I would like to say that I deeply sympathize with all of the victims of thefts occurred in Lot 80 N. I, too, have been a victim of theft. During Christmas break my room was somehow entered and burglarized. I came back this semester, and I couldn't find my computer, semester books, and other things, such as clothing items, a couple of CDs, and my wireless phone. I couldn't even find my high school yearbook. I alone had at least $3,000 worth of property stolen on top of other irreplaceable personal items. I find it extremely surprising and appalling that someone attending a university would perform such acts, and I believe I am not alone in that sentiment.
Do I think Penn State is a safe place? Not anymore. Do I think Penn State has serious security and safety problems? Most definitely. Adam Dean, the treatment you received from the officer that "helped" you is a reflection of the disdain the administration has in regards to our safety. However, they must respond to one voice the students.
Maybe if it is realized that people are concerned with their safety here, there will be a change. Therefore, I urge anyone who has been a victim of the lack of security at Penn State to write and tell your story. Write to the Collegian and Police Services. Write to your area coordinator and USG. Write to President Spanier. Make a difference. Write and demand more and better security at PSU.
