The Commission on Racial/Ethnic Diversity (CORED) is looking for nominations of students, faculty and staff of the university for membership.
CORED is an advising body to the university president on matters regarding diversity and the racial climate at Penn State. In the past, CORED has made recommendations for including diversity in the curriculum, analyzed different university policies and reviewed current programs to be sure that all groups are given appropriate representation.
According to Alicia Bunnell, current CORED chairwoman, CORED has both full and associate members. Full members serve four-year terms, or in the case of students, until graduation. Associate members serve one-year terms and can renew their positions for up to three years.
Bunnell estimated that with the combination of expiring terms and graduating student members, CORED will have about 10 open positions.
Anyone can submit a nomination and eligible self-nominations are accepted. Nominees will be contacted to apply for positions on CORED.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the CORED office in 311 Grange or downloaded from the CORED Web site, www.psu.edu/dept/cored/membership/nominate.html. Forms must be submitted to the CORED office by Friday, March 30. The new members will begin serving on CORED in July.
