'Production' by Mirwais

If you were to place a special-effects-equipped musical keyboard in front of a five-year-old child and let him plunk around on it a bit, the result would be the debut album Production by French producer/composer and multi-instrumentalist Mirwais.

Best known as Madonna's producer for her latest album Music, Mirwais surprisingly reveals little talent in his ability to create his own mix of trip-hop dance music.

The musical genre of this album can't quite be labeled as rave music or even dance music. It's a strange mix, but still possesses the signature low bass and drumbeats.

The songs "V.I. (The Last Words She Said Before Leaving)," and "Junkie's Prayer," are probably the worst songs on the album. They have an irritating, high-pitched sound that will drive you nuts and strange voice effects that may give you nightmares. But in track number seven, "Paradise (Not For Me)," Mirwais has Madonna breathing sensual verses in both English and French to a slow, rhythmic beat.

The album isn't all that bad — a few of the songs are actually quite catchy — but most of the songs have a low monotonous beat throughout the entire song with a few amateur voice effects thrown in.

Mirwais has decent producing skills and his music is well liked on the French music scene — his electronic single, "Disco Science," was what captured Madonna's attention. But if it weren't for his connection with Madonna, this album would be collecting a lot of dust on the music store shelves.
