Grades are not everything; success has many sources
Recently I have been thinking much about the subject of grades. This is in part due to the fact that I sat through an interesting lecture given by my sociology professor. He spent part of the class talking about the fact that there is more to life than grades. I'm sure there are many students out there who think about grades as well and I just wanted to express some important points outlined in his lecture that I found to be in agreement with. Last semester, I took grades pretty seriously and got easily annoyed when receiving less than par grades. However, this semester proved to be different. During the lecture, the professor talked about finding students increasingly worried about grades and the possible consequences of not getting 3.8 GPAs. Having already gone through what we are currently going through, my professor told us that your success after college would not depend on whether you got a 3.8 or a 3.1. Success depends on many other factors. After listening to my professor's lecture, I thought for a bit about the importance of grades to me. Grades are important; however, they should not be taken to the point where it controls what you do. We are in college, and this is the time to learn about life first most.
