Karl Newell was appointed associate dean of the College of Health and Human Development. Newell, current professor and head of the department of kinesiology, will take over his new position on July 1, 2001 in which he will assist in research and graduate education.
Newell has been a member of the Penn State faculty since 1992 and was named head of the kinesiology department in 1993. Prior to coming to Penn State, Newell served as the head of the department of kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Newell has received 43 grants and contracts grossing over $11.7 million toward his research and discoveries in regulation of movement in physical activity. He has also published six books uncovering his research findings, which constitute over 70 book chapters and nearly 150 journal articles.
