ESPN's 'expert' analysts did not give PSU a chance
Please allow me to congratulate the PSU men's basketball team on two well-played games this past weekend in the NCAA tournament, giving them their first Sweet 16 appearance since 1954. Let me extend my congratulations to those "expert analysts" at ESPN who did not give PSU an ice cream cone's chance in hell of beating Providence, let alone North Carolina. They managed to overlook a PSU team that beat the SEC tournament champion Kentucky, the A-10 tournament champion Temple, and the two regular season Big Ten co-champions Illinois and Michigan State. In addition, ESPN claimed PSU's victory over North Carolina was an upset. Aside from their seedings, this was not an upset. OK, PSU does not have a Michael Jordan-Dean Smith-three NCAA championships rich basketball history, but let's face it, the numbers don't lie. PSU has beaten two No. 1 seeds (Illinois and Michigan State) and two No. 2 seeds (Kentucky and North Carolina) as well as Temple (the Atlantic Ten tournament Champion). North Carolina beat one No. 1 seed (Duke) and lost to the same Kentucky team that PSU beat. North Carolina lost 5 consecutive games on Sundays. They didn't beat a nationally ranked team in March. PSU beat Michigan State in the Big Ten tournament. They have beaten four of the teams remaining in the NCAA tournament, North Carolina beat two. PSU strength of schedule ranking is 13th nationally North Carolina's was 14th. PSU scored 82 points Sunday. North Carolina scored 74. An upset? I think not.
