Another student running for Borough Council seat

Another Penn State student announced he will run on an independent ticket for one of three open State College Borough Council seats in November's election.

Chris Chambers (sophomore-finance and international business) is the second student to announce his candidacy in affiliation with the recently formed Student Party.

The first Student Party candidate, Brian Hoskins (junior-political science), announced his candidacy in February.

Chambers said he wants to make sure students are "treated as fairly as residents as much as non-student residents are."

His platform issues include improvements in student housing, parking downtown and riot control. However, Chambers did not want to elaborate on his goals yesterday, explaining he wants to save his specific plans for further political debates.

Chambers is president of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., vice president of the national Panhellenic Council and a member of Black Caucus.
