The Patton Township Police Department is asking local businesses to stay alert when receiving traveler's checks. Police have received reports from local businesses that Canadian American Express travelers' checks are being presented as cash. Business owners are asked to identify these checks prior to cashing them because the exchange rate will give the business a loss when they deposit the check in the bank, police said. Police do not know whether people are intentionally passing these checks along or whether they are unaware of the exchange rate.
