Penn State's top public relations person has a new title: Vice President.

The board of trustees officially promoted Stephen MacCarthy to the position of vice president for university relations on Friday.

"It allows us to recognize the high level of dedication and expertise Steve brings to the job," said Penn State President Graham Spanier.

MacCarthy oversees Penn State's departments of public information, publications, marketing, university relations, and development communications and special projects.

Previously, MacCarthy's title was executive director of university relations.
