Letter to the Editor
Alumni's dedication, work key to Penn State success

Matt McLaughlin and Eric Pipal submit that alumni have no place writing letters to the Collegian, except by their own narrow guidelines. I would like to remind you kids (yes, you are kids) that it is the alumni who make a large portion of your education possible. Our money, dedication, hard work and wisdom are key to your education and to Penn State as it is today.

As a 21- to 23-year-old, you couldn't possibly understand what the alumni mean to Penn State or even what Penn State means to you. Have you learned anything in the last five, 10 or 15 years? Well, we have learned things, too, and if you can extrapolate those numbers, you might begin to have some insight into how ignorant you really are compared to us. You are not capable of understanding these things yet — we do. Some alumni have spent their entire career in attempts to make your education better, and you have the audacity to question it? How dare you bite the hand that feeds you? Yes, I was your age once, and I thought I knew everything, but at least I had respect for those who came before me. You need our guidance so that the institution goes on. Your insulting letter merely proves the point.
